Sunday Obsession #6 - Foundation Days

Over the next few days/weeks here on My Little Corner I will be posting everything about foundations! So from how I choose a foundation, skin types, skin tones and ton of foundation reviews. This will be known as Foundation Days (yayy!!).

So please let me know if you have any questions about foundation and what foundation do you use, what is your skin type and any thing that pops in to mind. You can put your question in the comments below or ask on tumblr here.

Tomorrow I will be posting about how to find your right foundation color and then the next review with photos is on the Maybelline Fit Me foundation - You can 'like' My Little Corner on Facebook to get update when I post these.

Before we start these Foundation Days we all need to know what kind of skin type we are. I am not a doctor, a Make up Artist or a Skin professor, but I do know a thing or two about beauty.

I help women all the time to find potions and lotions for their skin and the first question I always ask is how is your skin, or what is your skin type.

There are 5 main skin types and I am not going too much into each one as this is more of a summary and maybe if i do Skin Care Days I will go into each and every one in details but here are the five main skin types:

1. Normal Skin - Not to dry and not to oily.

2. Combination skin -A combination skin type can me dry or normal i some areas and oily in others such as the T-zone. (T-zone is the nose, the forehead and the chin)

3. Dry skin. - When exposed to drying factors, skin can crack, peel or become irritated. So when it is cold outside you may notice your skin cracking a lot or become more sensitive.

4. Oily skinOiliness can change depending upon the time of year or the weather. Oily skin can be caused or made worse by puberty, stress and humanity

5. Sensitive skin- Sensitive skin can show up as redness, itching and dryness. If you have sensitive skin try to find out what triggers it so you can avoid that factor. Like if a face cream with fragrance causes itchiness, go for fragrance-free creams.

These are the 5 basic skin types. I have Normal Skin but in the winter I become Normal-Dry Skin. So in the winter I use moisturizer for normal-Dry skin.

Every person is different and everyone has different needs. It is a big plus if you have an idea about what kind of skin type you normally are. I have had normal skin, dry skin, combination skin and sensitive skin haha

You skin is always changing and it changes through out the years. When I was younger I used to get an oily t-zone and sometimes in the summer I still do.
When you grow older your skin tends to become dryer and irritates more easily.

Having the knowledge of what skin type you are helps you in finding your foundation and I will go into that tomorrow.

Anyway this has been a long post and Foundation Days are my Sunday Obsession this week, I have bought two new foundations this week and all I have been doing is trying all my foundations out and taking photos and preparing posts for Foundation Days.

Don't  forget to let me know what kind of skin type you are and what sort of foundation do you normally get?

Thanks for Reading

Revlon Colorstay Foundation Review

Revlon colorstay foundation is my favourite foundation and I love it!

Let me tell you why, the foundation has a natural medium coverage. When blended well into the skin it is amazing. The finish is not dewy but is still quite natural.
The colour 150 Buff, is a perfect colour match for me. Before I bought this one I always had some sort of colour issue with my other 'drugstore' foundations, too light, too yellow or pink... but the colour range is good.Every time I help a customer find their shade with this foundation it's no problem.
The best way. I think, to apply the Revlon colorstay is with a damp sponge or with a buffing brush.

One of the reason why this foundation is so popular is that it comes in two ranges, one for normal/dry skin and one range for oily/combination skin type.
I use the one for normal/dry skin type.

The foundation has SPF 15 which is great for everyday foundation but maybe not for taking photos, as the SPF makes your face turn whiter in photographs. So if your planning on taking loads of photos with flash maybe try something like Revlon photoready foundation.

This foundation stays on for ages. It claims to stay on for 24 hours, first of all... who wants to wear foundation for 24 hours?
However, when I do my make-up in the morning and by late that night when I take of my makeup I am taking off my foundation. I feel like it lasts all day on me and I don't even have to fix my foundation the whole day.
If you decide to set the foundation with powder it will last even longer.

There are few downsides to the Revlon colorstay and one of them is that the foundation bottle does not have a pump, you have to pour out the foundation out of the bottle and I feel like that wastes the product and is just messy. Also the foundation needs to be shaken well before used.

Another thing is the price, you can get a great foundation at the drugstore for £8 but the Revlon colorstay foundation is £12.99 however there is sometimes offers like 3 for 2 or buy one get second half price. When that sort of offers are you can always get few products on a good offer.
However the foundation is definitely worth the money and I think it is amazing and I have already bought my second bottle because my first is completely finished! (on a offer of course)

So I used the foundation today, just one layer and applied with damp sponge.

So in the before photo all I have on is moisturizer, you can see the redness around my nose and how dark my undereye circles are.
With one sheer layer of foundation it has even out my skin. I still need to add on concealer underneath my eyes.
So here is my final look

I did add tiny concealer under my eyes but I used no setting powder.
When the foundation dries it does not smudge.

I hope you liked this review, it is the first of all my 12 favorite products of 2012.
You can follow this blog to get updates when I'll post the other products review in many ways :)

Don't forget to let me know if you have tried this foundation out and what did you think?

My Top 12 of 2012

It is that time again, and to start my year in the blogging world I will be doing my top 12 of 2012, like last year. (check that blog post out here).
So here are my top products that have stood up for me this year. Some are new discovery and some are oldie but goldie.

In the next few weeks, I will be doing reviews on all top 12. (That is a promise!!)
So if you are interested follow me on Facebook or Twitter to get updates when I post the reviews :)

 1. Revlon Colorstay Foundation.

I discovered this foundation this year, I had heard so much about this product and finally went to grab it, Revlon Colorstay foundation is amazing. It looks so natural but is still full coverage, and I found a great color that matches me. I have the color 150 Buff. I have already gone through one bottle and just bought my second.
The foundation comes for two different skin types and I use the one for normal/dry skin. (I can go on and on about this foundation and it will be the first detailed review conning soon)

2. Real Technique brushes

Affordable and amazing quality. That is the reason why they have been so popular.
I love all of them, I think I own most of the brushes and the blush brush and the expert brush are two of my favorite. The are so soft and they blend so well. Love them!

3. NYX blush in Angel 03

In the beginning of summer I ordered of NYX website and I had never seen any of the blushes so I ordered Angel, only by looking online. I fell in LOVE.
It is a bit difficult to get NYX in the UK, I think the only way is to order online, and I am defiantly ordering more from them since my first order was just amazing. There is a NYX store in Iceland.
(Check them out here)
Anyway the blush.... its called Angel and is the most perfect blush for me. It suits my skin tone and is very natural.

4. L'Oreal False Lash Telescopic

Finding a great mascara is a mission in life. Right?
I have straight, small, boring lashes.
Somehow this worked better then any other mascara. (so far)
The brush is great and the formula nice.
The only thing is that it is a bit pricey.. around 11 pounds? but you can always find offers and it was on an offer when I bought it so I was happy.
I keep on grabbing this mascara over and over again so I must have loved it.

5. Rimmel Lycra Pro, Nail polishes

I love all nail polishes, and picking one 'brand' was a torture.
BUT... I love these, the brush is big and easy to use. These colors are amazing for fall and winter and they last long. One thing is that the whole collection does not have a big selection of colors but these three have been my favorite!

6. Seche Vite, Dry fast top coat.

This top coat is great, It dries super fast and makes your nail polish last super long.
I'm already half way through my bottle and it is getting a bit thick now. It is not really bothering me because when I use it my nails dry in like 2 min.
7. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

This was the year of moisturizing lipsticks, and on the top there were the Revlon Lip butters.
I have few, and like I said I will be doing a review on them but these two are my favorite colors.
010 Raspberry Pie and 080 Strawberry Shortcake.
The colors are so vibrant and the lip butter is very moisturizing.
Total must!!
8. NYX Jumbo Pencil in 604 Milk

I bought the Jumbo Pencil in May when I was in Iceland.
This is a great eyeshadow base and a highlighter. It is so creamy and so easy to blend.
And guess what...LOVE IT !

9. Urban Decay Primer Potion.

This was on my list last year. I have gone through 4 small primer potions and this December I bought the normal size.
It is a must have for me and I use it every day. Such a great product. :)

10. Urban Decay Naked 1 & 2 Palette

Last year I mentioned Naked 1 on my top list. And this year I got Naked 2 for Christmas.
I still don't know which one I prefer.
Both of them are really great and a must have (at least one of them) for every girl.

11. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 HR Eyeshadow in On and On Bronze

These eyeshadows are over all a great product.
Gel-Cream Eyeshadow that is super long wearing and easy to wear on its own.
My favorite way to wear it is as a base.
The color On and On Bronze is such a great universal color.
12. Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Pencils

Scandaleyes Pencils are waterproof and they stay on for a long time.
They are very creamy and can be used as a base for eyeshadow.
The colors I have is 005 Nude, 004 Taupe and 001 Black.
They come in more colors and I am sure I will pick up more.
The black one is really good in the waterline.
The nude and the taupe are very unique for drugstore pencils.
And for the last time.... LOVE THEM.

So like I said, more than once, I love all of these products.
I will be doing reviews of all of them in the next few weeks.

Sample Challenge #1 Maybelline Foundation Super stay 24h

Starting on my sample stash... #1
Maybelline Super Stay 24h Stretch formula, Non-transfer, up to 24hr make-up.

This is what the Maybelline website says: Do it-all, Through-it-all makeup, 24-hour wear, no tr
ansfer and medium coverage.

Well I tried it, and this sample lasted two-three days, i just kept it in a bag and used it the next day.

First impressions:
That small sample lasted me 3 days, which means that you only need a little bit to get good coverage.
What I liked about this foundation:
Good coverage, the color did match me (it is a sample, what you get, is what you get). It did stay on through the day, (including an hour nap). It did not stay 24 hours, (I clean my face at night) (and who would want makeup on 24hr anyway) but it did stay through out the day. If I would be going out that night, I would freshen up with concealer.
I did not have to use powder over the foundation, the foundation really did not smudge.
No transfer so a big plus for that.

The foundation did mattefied my face, which I am not sure if I did liked or not, I am all about having fresh dewy face these days, but on the other hand, matte face is also something I like occasionally.
What I did not like about this foundation:
I feel that it did stick to dry spots, It is bit drying. I do not have dry skin, I have normal skin, so if someone has dry skin, I would not recommend this foundation.
I have normal size pores (not big at all) and all of the sudden this foundation found all of my pores and just gathered there...
It did not blend that well into my skin. Even though I had a brightening primer under. It probably needs to be smoothing primer under the foundation so it will blend a bit better.
I only use my fingers to apply so maybe if I would have buffed it into my skin it would blend better.
I really feel that my skin was a bit dull and the way the foundation gathered in dry area and around my nose was just not good.

So to get all that in few words.

Pros: good medium coverage, staying power, good color. did not transfer
Cons: drying, sticks to dry spots, sticks to pores, did not blend well enough.

And the big question is...

Will I be buying the Maybelline Super Stay foundation?

No,
I feel that there are so many better foundations out there that do have a great staying power on, so unfortunally this foundation will not be ending in my make up bag.

But do keep in mind that all skin types are different and even thought I did not like it, you might.
Just start on trying a sample :)

So this is my first sample finished.

Do you have any experience with this foundation

Try out your samples and do the sample challenge :)
